Gangubai Kathiawadi Movie Story

The famous mafia queen Gangubai Kathiwadi was born in a famous family of Kathiawar Gujarat.

Her real name was Ganga Harjivandas. She dreamed of becoming a Bollywood actress from a very young age and wanted to come to Mumbai to fulfill her dreams.

During her college, when she was 16 years old, she fell in love with Ramnik Lal, who was her father's accountant.

Ganga escapes from Kathiawar with him and comes to Mumbai to settle down and start a new life together.

It is said that Ganga and Ramnik Lal got married after leaving home and living in Mumbai.

But later Ramnik betrayed her and sold her in a brothel. 500. This betrayal destroyed Ganga but her new life as Gangubai began.

She became a prostitute and started living in Red Light area of Mumbai.

According to Gangubai's chapter in Hussain Zaidi's book on 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai', Gangubai was one of the prominent names of Mumbai's largest red light area called 'Kamathipura'.

Many underworld mafia people were his customers.

In the 1960s, Karim Lala was one of the powerful mafia faces of the city and dominated the underworld along with Haji Mastan and Varadarajan.

The red light area Kamathipura was also under Karim.

In one incident, Gangubai went to one of the biggest mafia don Karim Lala to seek justice.

According to the book, a member of Karim's gang raped her and she sought justice.

Later Karim Lala and Gangu's relationship took a new turn and Gangu made him his brother while tying a rakhi on his wrist.

Karim Lala also considered Gangu to be his sister and gave the rule of Kamathipura to his sister Gangubai and she emerged as one of the 'mafia queens' of Mumbai.

Gangubai, who was also a victim of prostitution, became a powerful and dreaded buyer of Kamathipura in Mumbai.

Following an alliance with Karim Lala, Gangubai ruled Kamathipura, but never used her power to exploit young girls and women or force them into prostitution.

Even after facing all the difficulties in her life, she was determined to work for the betterment of all the other sex workers.

She was a kind of godwoman to sex workers and orphans.

Even though she ran a brothel, she never forced anyone to work without their consent. For him all the women and children living in Kamathipura were his children and he raised them like a mother.

According to one incident, Gangubai had a fight with one of the key members of a famous mafia gang in Mumbai.

She was the undisputed queen of Mumbai's brothels.

Gangubai also fought to stop the movement to remove the prostitution market from Mumbai and people of Kamathipura still remember her for all the work she did for her.

A big statue is installed in his memory in the area. In Kamathipura, pictures of Gangubai still adorn the walls of the brothel.

Gangubai's reign strengthened over time and she is known for her style of wearing saris with broad golden borders.

She was also seen wearing a big red dot on her forehead.

Being the sister of Karim Lala and the undisputed ruler of the prostitute business, she also had a good fortune and had a Bentley which is said to be worth 4 rupees according to today's value.

Her immense power always looked towards the betterment of sex workers and orphans and she always stood up for the rights of women whose work was sold into prostitution.

Gangubai also once met Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and considering his foresight, he approved his proposal to protect red light areas.
